We need to protect the values and traditions of our industrious state.
“We’re facing economic challenges: fewer jobs, higher taxes and climbing health care costs. I don’t have all the answers but I do know how to make a fresh start and make things right.” Skillicorn wants to embrace traditions of hard work, thrift and initiative to make our community a better place to live and work. “Low taxes and a common sense approach to regulations should be the standard.”
Skillicorn started as an advocate for taxpayers in East Dundee. As a private citizen, he’s successfully pressured East Dundee to adopt basic transparency measures which allow you to see village spending. While making records public online doesn’t achieve anything on its own, “You cannot improve what you cannot measure.” As an elected trustee, Skillicorn sponsored a Freeze The Levy plan to prevent an arbitrary property tax increase for 2012-2013. After significant initial resistance, the board compromised and found census to keep the property tax levy under the tax cap.
Allen was born and raised here in the Fox Valley. He lives in East Dundee with his wife, Heather, and their nine-year-old Doberman named Captain Kid.
Where Allen stands on the issues
1. Accountability – All residents deserve to be able to see where their tax money is spent. All budgets, salaries, and spending need to be posted on government websites.
2. Incentive Growth and protect property owners – Families and businesses are seeing their property taxes skyrocket and their property values crumble. That’s not right, property taxes need to be tied to a common sense metric that does not allow taxes to spike when values stagnate or drop.
3. Focus on Core Services – Police, schools, streets, and water should be our top priorities. Residents and businesses depend on these core services. Property values will continue to stagnate if these services are neglected. Quality services like public safety, schools, and water are key to Illinois’ competitive success.
